Mold removal in the Twin Cities

Experienced mold professionals who fix the problem at its source.

Since 2009, Capital City Construction & Remediation has helped Minneapolis, St. Paul and Twin Cities homeowners find and remove mold in basements, attics, bathrooms and crawl spaces. Our team brings over 250 years of combined experience in remediation and residential construction.

Mold remediation is more than cleaning what you can see. It means testing to understand the full extent of the problem, containing the area so spores don't spread, safely removing contaminated materials, and correcting the moisture issue that caused it. Because we're also a full-service contractor, we rebuild the affected areas too, so you don't need a second company.

Every project ends with verification, so you know your home is clear.

FAQs

Mold questions, answered.

How do I know if I have mold in my home?

Common signs include a musty odor, visible spots on walls, ceilings or grout, water stains, peeling paint and allergy-like symptoms that improve when you leave the house. Mold often grows where you can't see it, like behind drywall or under flooring, which is why professional mold testing is the most reliable way to know.

Do I need mold testing if I can already see mold?

Testing helps identify how far the mold has spread, whether it's affecting your indoor air and where the moisture is coming from. That information lets us build a remediation plan that removes all of it, not just the visible patch, and gives you a baseline to confirm your home is clear afterward.

Is mold dangerous to my family's health?

Mold exposure can trigger allergies, asthma, headaches and respiratory irritation, especially in children, older adults and anyone with a weakened immune system. If you suspect mold, it's best to have it tested and removed rather than wait.

How long does mold remediation take?

Most residential mold remediation projects take 1 to 5 days, depending on the size of the affected area, the materials involved and whether repairs are needed afterward. We'll give you a clear timeline after your inspection.

Will the mold come back after remediation?

Mold needs moisture to grow. Along with removing the mold, we find and address the moisture source, such as a leak, poor ventilation or high humidity, so it doesn't return. Post-remediation testing confirms the job is done right.

Does homeowners insurance cover mold removal?

Coverage depends on the cause. Mold resulting from a sudden, covered event like a burst pipe is often included, while mold from long-term humidity or maintenance issues usually isn't. We document the damage and work with your insurance company to help you understand your options.

Can I remove mold myself?

The EPA suggests homeowners can clean small areas, roughly under 10 square feet, on hard surfaces. Larger areas, mold in HVAC systems, or mold inside walls and porous materials should be handled by professionals using containment and HEPA filtration so spores don't spread to the rest of your home.

What areas do you serve?

We provide mold testing and remediation for homeowners across the Twin Cities metro, including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Eagan, Bloomington, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Edina, Woodbury and surrounding communities, plus Northern Minnesota.
